Re: Анатомия английского брига
18 guns Brig (1810) - типовой проект бригов периода 1797-1815 гг. Наполеоновских войн
Scale: 1:48. A contemporary full hull model of an 18-gun brig (circa 1810), built plank on frame. Model is decked and fully equipped including a full set of guns with tackle, a capstan rigged with bars, double wheel and a pair of boats slung from davits. At this scale the model represents a vessel measuring 100 feet along the gun deck by 31 feet in the beam and a tonnage of 384 burden. Of special interest on this model are the quarter davits, used both for stowing the boats and thus un-cluttering deck space, as well as allowing quick release for launch. The design and layout would suggest that this model represents one of the numerous ‘Cruiser’-class brigs built between 1797-1815. These ships played a very active part during the Napoleonic Wars, being used as ‘maid of all work’, for example, for the carrying of despatches to Plymouth from the fleet blockading Brest, or for convoying trade along the coast.
Overall model: 190 x 745 x 230 mm; Base: 90 x 388 x 152 mm

Re: Анатомия английского брига
Mnemosyne (circa 1870); Merchant vessel; Cargo vessel; Brig
Scale: 1:32. A contemporary full hull model of the sailing merchant brig ‘Mnemosyne’ (1870), mounted on its original wooden display crutches. The copper-sheathed hull is complete with a female half bust figurehead on the bow, while on deck are various fittings including a large deckhouse, winches and windlasses, steering wheel and skylights for the after cabin. Although it has not been possible to positively identify this model against a known vessel of this name, the length at this scale would be 87 feet by 21 feet in the beam and an approximate tonnage of 125 gross. The name is from the Greek word for ‘memory’, and it is slightly strange as to why a vessel of this type would be named as such. During the 19th century, thousands of these merchant brigs were in use carrying various cargoes and passengers all over the world. It was not until the 1880s – by which time steamship had started to overcome the problem of using a reliable and economic steam engine capable of long ocean voyages – that these vessels were under threat commercially. Towards the late-19th century, these vessels were gradually replaced by brigantines and topsail schooners which were much more flexible and economically viable ship types.
Overall model: 993 x 1375 x 534 mm; Base: 80 x 646 x 143 mm

H.M. Brig Supply
H.M. Brig Supply was launched in 1759 as a Deptford yard transport. In 1786 she was converted to an armed tender. It is in her modified form that she wrote herself into history by arriving ahead of the first convict fleet in Australian waters. She was also the first to sail into Port Jackson. H.M. Brig Supply is now known as the ship from which Australia was founded.
